Special Types of IRS Installment Agreements to consider:

  • Partial Pay Installment Agreement - this is an IRS payment plan that does not fully pay the balance within the Collection Statute. Much like a settlement, you pay less than what you owe, but the process takes longer.

  • Tiered Installment Agreement - this IRS payment plan option is great for seasonal businesses and teachers. It allows you to pay one amount during your busy months and a smaller amount during slim times.

  • Streamlined Installment Agreement - depending on how much you owe, you can be guaranteed an Installment Agreement without having to provide financial information.

TIP: The IRS charges a set-up fee for all Installment Agreements, but it is significantly lower if you agree to have it automatically taken out of your bank account each month.

 Current Fees Charged by the IRS (2014):
  • $52 for a direct debit agreement;
  • $120 for a standard agreement or payroll deduction agreement; or
  • $43 if your income is below a certain level.
